Our Food for Thought Placemat Design Contest for 1st-5th grades ties closely to the Ag in the Classroom (AITC) presentations. It’s a great way for students to show what they’ve learned about food and farming. First place designs from each grade are printed on placemats for use in restaurants across the county!
Each grade has a different theme. Following a teacher-guided ag lesson or AITC presentation, students design their placemats based on the theme. To facilitate a whole-class effort, we encourage teachers to allow time during class for designs to be created.
Members of our Agricultural Literacy Committee serve as the judging panel, choosing first, second and third place winners and honorable mention recipients for each grade level. Recognition of the winners and their teachers takes place during an Awards Night in April at the Farm Bureau Center for Agriculture.
