SAI 2018: Teaching Social Studies through Agriculture
Register now for our 19th Summer Ag Institute (SAI)! The 2018 theme is “Teaching Social Studies through Agriculture.” Participants can earn either 2 hours of graduate credit or 30 hours of professional development credit (PDCs). Find out more details or take a look at the institute schedule.
2018 SAI class meeting dates will be Friday, June 8 from 8:30 a.m.-noon, and Monday, June 11 – Thursday, June 14 from 8:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m.

Educator Workshops
Identify strategies and resources to use farming and food as vehicles to teach important concepts and skills while addressing learning standards. Examples of possible workshop topics include:
- “Booked on Food & Farming” – Explore non-fiction, fiction, informational reading, and hands-on activities focused on themes like dairy, corn, Illinois, and soil.
- “Thinking Critically about Food, Farming, and Sustainability” – Use food labels as a springboard to discuss food safety, the environment, crop production technology, and animal welfare.
